It’s a new bike shop in North Oakland, California, specializing in Cargo Bikes and Electric Cargo Bikes. Our team has a combined 80+ years of experience riding cargo bikes. With other bike shops you may come for a practical bike but have a salesperson whose passion is mountain biking. With Low Carbon Fun our passion is cargo biking and commuting, shopping, adventure, and hauling by bike.

We’ve selected the most approachable bikes to help you get started. We were all fortunate to be brought into cargo biking through the camaraderie of the bike movement: friends pulling in friends for social bike rides, bike camping trips, and other local adventures. Owner/founder Paul Freedman (a.k.a. Fossil Fool) was a supporting team member and early investor in Xtracycle and Yuba Bicycles, and is interviewed in the cargo bike movie MotherLoad. It’s the person-to-person passing it on that has grown the cargo bike movement, and we aim to give you the same good feelings, while also being your dependable local bike shop that keeps regular hours. We’ll not only sell you the bike; we’ll show you the tips and tricks that make cargo biking fun and effective. And you can come back to get that support any time.

Bikes get you there effectively with zero carbon pollution, and a dose of cardiovascular exercise. Bikes can help you access nature. Cargo biking can help families and friends of differing abilities ride together… The stronger rider carries more (or carries the other as a passenger). It’s empowering and great for picnics! We have built a niche in the events field servicing brands, orgs, and schools. Now through Low Carbon Fun, we aim to make some of our offerings available to individuals. So, for example, if you have a birthday coming up in your family, why not rent a Fender Blender Pro, pick up some smoothie supplies and have a hit that rivals a bounce house. Or get a bounce house too and put the Fender Blender Pro right next to it for when the kids need a healthy treat. But you probably shouldn’t put the Fender Blender inside the bounce house -- that could get messy.
